QUICK START GUIDE FOR NEW EMPLOYEES

Congratulations, you have a new employee through TalentFuse. We have provided this guide to help ease your transition and help you get results from your new employee as quickly as possible.

Before He/She Arrives

Before the new employee starts, you should do what you can to prepare a working environment that will inspire results.

  • Find a computer, monitor, and chair for the new employee.
  • Request all of the computer programs that the new employee will need to accomplish his/her job duties.

Also you should take a moment to plan out what you want the new worker to do. Pick a plan of attack and decide on a deliverable that is reasonable.

The First Day

Typical newbies have a few fundamental questions that you should be prepared to answer:

  • Where is the restroom?
  • Where is the kitchen?
  • What workstation do I go to?
  • Who do I report to?
  • Who will I work with most closely?
  • What hours do you expect me to work?
  • What phone numbers, phone extensions, and email addresses do I need to know?

Assign a Cohort

It's always a good idea to assign a cohort for the new employee. Ideally, it should be someone who performs similar job tasks, or who used to perform that job task. Ask this person to show the new employee the ropes, but remember to establish clear hierarchy with both employees to ensure that the new employee knows who is boss.

Discuss the Deliverable

You should already have decided on a first deliverable for the new employee. Don't expect miracles, instead, set a challenge where there is a reasonable expectation of success. Take time to discuss the task and set clear expectations for the deliverable. Give guidance to the new employee about where he/she can find resources and tools to complete the task. Ask the new employee to repeat his or her understanding of the task. If appropriate, allow the employee to be innovative about how he/she arrives at the result.

Give it Time

Don't freak out if something goes wrong in the first couple of days. It is natural for people to make mistakes in an unfamiliar environment. Conversely, don't let too much slide. You should inform the new employee if he/she has made a mistake. A new employee is always interested in pleasing the boss, so it is important to give constructive criticism so that the employee can tailor his/her work product accordingly.

Give the new person a little time to settle in. If you continue to have concerns, feel free to contact your TalentFuse representative.
